@Quinn Tully (just so you know where your personal thread is, no need to use the reply or ping when you answer, I'll see there being new text in the thread) Quinn awakens to a knock at the door of their small cabin aboard the Greystar star hab. In orbit over the night world of Acastus, the very dim light from the pulsar star is filling the cabin. This makes the interior gray instead of the pitch black you normally experience to something of a dim gray. A fitting start to what will be your first assignment. Others from your graduating class have been given their first orders already, though based on who you have seen in the halls you would estimate that about half your class is left. Greystar has more happening within and without its borders than ever before, and it was said many times during training that this class would be one of the busiest that the agent academy has ever recruited and trained. Many different backgrounds and cultures made up this class. There were even many non humans in it, representing the expansion of Greystar to include more cultures and peoples than ever befor.e

Quinn sets the compad down onto his desk before getting up and opening the door. He's an early riser, so he had already cleaned himself up for the morning (shower, brush teeth, shave, etc.) and donned his uniform (whichever of the four kinds is customary for day-to-day on the hab). (edited)
Avatar
The duty uniform looks to be the order of the day and you open the door to the courier standing there politely. "Agent Tully, dispatch from command. For your eyes only, so I'm giving it to you on paper instead of it coming electronically in the usual way. Of utmost importance to the Director for us to get an agent on it, and today's your lucky day"

"Understood," he replies, taking the paper from the courier before sending them along their way. He shuts the cabin door, returns to his desk, and unfurls the paper. What does the dispatch say? (edited)

The message is short. Transportation is going to be provided for you to the destination. That destination is the planet Arana, where military equipment was recently stolen from Greystar. The investigation into the off-world arms dealer that absconded with it is ongoing, but as a secondary consequence, the people of Arana are beginning to take advantage of the polity's perceived weakness. A separatist movement is growing on the planet, located in Sutton primarily. Taking out its leader will scatter the movement in its infancy.

Quinn sets down the letter and, with his compad, starts searching the GSC database for information on Arana, Sutton, and (if possible) the separatists. He wants to learn as much as possible before he leaves the hab. (edited)

(OOC: I've got the wiki page for Arana pulled up. How much of that info would Quinn be able to gather? What info that isn't on there would he be able to dig up?)

(you know everything that is on World Anvil. Everything known about the planet is in the article, we expand articles through adventure so what's there, aside from the theft probably, is all that is known. We haven't spent much time here in character through everyone's various playthroughs)

(Alright.)
5:38 PM
Quinn will pack his bags and make his way to the hangar for transit to Arana.
Avatar
Heading down to the hangar bay, the shuttle crew was previously advised you are coming and they are completing pre flight checks. The crew chief at the top of the ramp gives a wave , letting you know it is safe and okay to approach. Ground crews work on removing ground power and fuel lines to the vessel. Upon boarding you are given a quick tour of your bunk, the galley, and the other communal spaces you will have access to. They crew lets you know it will be a seven day trip to the destination, and they're eager to set off. (I'll post the downtime rules here. It;s not seven irl days of no posts or anything, this is just for you to tell me what you're spending the travel time doing) (edited)

Arriving at Arana your ship is permitted to enter local system space, and the crew plans to bring you to the surface. The insurgency is thought to be centered in Sutton, but there are many points of interest on the planet. With the map of the world being displayed, they wish to know where you want to set down.

(Sorry for not responding to the downtime post. I couldn't think of anything specific that Quinn would be doing.)
7:25 PM
Quinn will request touchdown at one of the islands in the southeast (Unity of Southern Arana territory).

Landing on an island to the north of the largest inhabited landmass belonging to the southern alliance you see that the main feature here is a work camp devoted to sawing down trees and collecting ores to be brought back to the main city and processed. About five hundred people from the lowest class of life here work as laborers, under a middle management and overall authority of families and emergent company guilds in the cities beyond

Quinn will make his way to whatever office oversees the work camp, specifically to check for shipping records. If he can start picking up a paper trail, it'll make the job a whole lot easier.

Entering the camp you show your identification and the security troopers bring you to the trailer that serves as the camp office. You can tell they’re nervous with an official Confederation agent here. The door opens and the camp overseer is behind their wide desk looking frazzled and shuffling paperwork around

Quinn steps inside and lean up against the wall by the door. "Have I caught you at a bad time?" (edited)
Avatar
He shrugs
9:04 AM
'"It's never a good time, is it? " His voice has a nervous inflection to it. "Didn't expect the Confederation to send an agent, especially here. At risk of sounding well...rude...what do you want?" With a gesture, the camp overseer waves for his guard to leave you both in private and return to his place outside guarding the door. "Ensure we're not disturbed" he says as the guard departs.

"I just need to look through some shipping manifests." Quinn replies, slowly pacing across the room. "The last 90 days, if you have that."
Avatar
"I'd be happy to help you do it..." he says, shuffling more papers around nervously "Just need to know what you're looking for, You know, my office is such a mess" he chuckles nervously "Almost impossible find things in here. You really do need my help" His forehead is slick with sweat, and his leg shakes to the point the small cup of cooling coffee on his desk has ripples spreading from the center of the cup.

Quinn Tully 6/9/2023 3:26 PM
"Just tell me where to look. I doubt you'd want to spill your coffee on the papers."
Avatar
"File cabinet in the corner" he says, gestruing. His arm is shaking. "It would help if you told me what in the records you're looking for...I...I can help..." he says.
Avatar
As you flip through the records you find several bills of sale, to a person known as "A totally legitimate arms dealer" a placeholder, as no one expected the reports to be found or investigated seriously. Greystar is not as administratively bloated as the locals suspected. A Major General who was one of the local nobles is mentioned in the report as taking part in these sales.
Avatar
Quinn Tully 6/13/2023 9:27 PM
Quinn takes a note of these bills of sale on his compad (either by taking pictures, if it has that capability, or by typing out the relevant information if it does not.) (Do the documents say where the purchased items were sent to?) After that, he'll place the bills back into the file cabinet, then grab the closest folder of papers in the same drawer, take both them out, and close the drawer. "Found what I needed," he'll say to the overseer with a faint smile and chuckle. "Some offworlder's kid got their identity stolen, and it seems whoever nicked it used the name for a few investments here. No need to worry; there shouldn't be any more trouble for you on the matter." As he slips the folders and his compad into his backpack, he slowly walks towards the overseer's desk. "Now, is there still any coffee left in the pot?"
Avatar
The documents just state that they were sold to an off world trader for a combination of credits and very fine off world alcohols. The trader's ship was registered as from an independent world, not part of any of the existing polities. The intended destination for the items is unknown, and the connection between this and the growing seperatist movement is also currnetly unknown. THe camp overseer looks relieved, and nods weakly that yes, there is coffee remaining.
